Facts on heavy lifting when handling machinery and tools
Operating heavy machines can cause harmful effects in the body as working positions are often awkward; the oblique and often heavy lifting can be harmful.
- Use technical aids when transporting or positioning machinery and tools. For instance, use a mini crane on a lorry
- Machines or parts of machines must not be lifted above shoulder height without technical aids.
- Dismantle the machine into as many parts as possible before positioning or moving it.
- You may need two people to position machines and/or tools.
