There must always be a means of escape in addition to the access route such that everyone at the work site can escape to safety in the event of a hazard. If you are using ladders as a means of escape/for access, they must be secured in position. Lifts will not be accepted as a means of escape. Escape routes must always be kept clear so that people can pass through.
