Before starting work, a scaffold, screen or similar must be set up at the base of the roof;

• if the height of the base above ground level is more than 2 m, and if people are to work/remain at a height of more than 5 m above ground.
• If the roof is smooth, roof ladders must be used regardless of the height at which people are to work.
